Forged Garden Railing

The prompt for this project was a textured railing that would not detract from the stone stairway.

Every inch of steel used for this project was textured under our power hammers. The posts were hot-punched and drifted so that the handrail passed through them. They taper as well, from 1.75” at the base to 1” at the top. The escutcheons at the bases of the posts were forged from solid stock; punched, drifted, textured and domed. It may look like some of the posts aren’t straight due to the camera lens, but I assure you they are plumb, and the handrail follows the stairs at a consistent 36” from each nose.
