A section of railing at Suffolk Court in Boston was broken off its base.
We replaced this rotten rod and all other mechanical fasteners with stainless steel.
We made any necessary repairs to the cast iron, and reinstalled the components in place. Vintage cast iron railings such as these should never be welded together; they are intended to be assembled with screws and tension rods and will operate best in their original configurations.
We repaired the railings as necessary and reinstallled them with some minor modifications into their new stone stairs.
A Rhode Island customer called us in to replace these original railings with new modern-looking picket rails, believing the originals to be too far gone. Upon inspection, we determined that they could be restored, which would increase the value of the home and maintain its original aesthetic.
