Samuel Dexter House Fence
Abraham Lincoln Post 11 (the Samuel Dexter House, locally known as Memorial Hall) has been painstakingly restored by the Veterans who steward the building. Part of this process involved replacing the unsightly chain link fence with a replica of the cast iron fence that was installed in the late 1800s. We dove into historic trade catalogues looking for similar options as inspiration, and provided the vets with an informed design that took into account both the historic nature of the project, and modern considerations such as cost, strength, fabrication techniques and durability. Take a look at the following links to see videos of our fabrication and forging processes:
Part 1: Design and Fabrication Part 2: Fabrication and Castings Part 3: Installation

The circled portion of this antique photo is the fence we referenced in our design, without the pointed finials.

We hand sketched options for cast and forged/fabricated infills.

The cast ductile iron Salem pattern posts complimented our infill design.
